Italian police have seized the villa of former Formula 1 driver Nikita Mazepin and his father Dmitri. The villa in northern Sardinia, called Rocky Ram, is said to have a total value of more than 100 million euros, including its contents. The former driver of the Haas racing stable and his father Dmitri have been on the European sanctions list since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine because of their ties to Vladimir Putin.
At the beginning of March, Mazepin’s contract with Haas was terminated due to the war in Ukraine. Mazepin would start his second season as a Formula 1 driver. Haas also severed ties with Russian main sponsor Uralkali, father Dmitri’s fertilizer company.
Mazepin was the only Russian driver in Formula 1. He got a place at Haas last year, partly thanks to investments from his father.
The action by the Italian police is part of a larger project. In the past period, several villas and yachts, worth a total value of 900 million euros, were seized from rich Russians who are on the European sanctions list.
