It’s wine time!Increasing number of Dutch vineyards

cheers! The number of Dutch vineyards has almost doubled in the last five years.

Dutch vineyards (and Dutch wines!)

The Dutch are known for beer and Jenever. The Dutch beer industry continues to grow, but the booming wine industry cannot be overlooked. When drawing vineyards, you might imagine the rolling hills of France, Italy, Australia and California, but this little country also has something special.

The Dutch wine industry is thriving due to the growing popularity of local and organic wines over the last few years. In 2016, there were only 94 vineyards in the Netherlands, but this week the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) reported that this number almost doubled to 171 in 2021.

The Netherlands produces 900,000 liters of wine each year

In total, the Dutch vineyards cover about 250 hectares of land and produce about 900.00 liters of wine each year. This is about 1 million bottles.

The numbers show that there are wineries in every state of the Netherlands, but Gelderland and Limburg are among winemakers (or winemakers for those who love drinks but don’t know much about the process of making them). Proven to be the most popular in. Fortunately, many of them are open to the public for tastings and tours, so if you’re not sure what to do next sunny weekend, why not check out your local vineyards?
