Jail for man who threatened Pieter Omtzigt

Death threat

The man took part in a demonstration on the Plein on 20 August 2020 in The Hague. Later that day he saw Omtzigt walking. The man then walked to Omtzigt with a number of others. The condemned man spoke to Omtzigt in a loud voice, walked right in front of him and blocked the free passage, forcing Omtzigt to stop. When Omtzigt walked on, the man scolded him and made a death threat.

Four months in prison

The court sentenced the man for the threat to four months in prison, half of which was suspended. Due to the man’s personal circumstances, the court imposed a slightly larger part of the sentence on a conditional basis than the Public Prosecution Service demanded. As a result, the man has to serve 2 months in prison.
