Jan Dulles reflects on daughter’s death: ‘Why did this have to happen to us?’ | show

Donna, the daughter of Dulles and his wife Caroline, passed away last December from complications resulting from a tear in her diaphragm. The 3JS singer had his three-month-old girl in his arms when she died. “This is a trauma that will never go away,” he said of the heavy loss.

Since today is exactly one year ago that the girl passed away, Dulles shares his feelings with his followers on Instagram. ‘For no apparent reason, you suddenly took your last breath in my arms. Time came to a standstill. You left for another world and ours changed forever too. Why did this have to happen to us?” Dulles writes.

The Volendammer has many questions. ‘Does death have meaning? Or is it just an accident… the absolute ‘nothing’? That’s what I’ve been wondering for a year now. Is there a heaven from which you follow what we do? Are you doing well there?’, says Dulles. The arrival of his daughter Lina, who was born last month, also feels ‘double’, according to Dulles. ‘Can you smile there with your beautiful eyes when you see that a sister of yours was born here? Or should we all learn to look at it in a positive way. It will take some time, but we’ll do our best. Lina was born because you are no more. That’s a mixed feeling that you don’t just get used to.’

The singer has been revived by the arrival of daughter Lina. Time is turning again, he says. But life will never be the same again, he emphasizes. ‘We’re thinking of you. Every hour of the day.’
