Justice in the Netherlands has itself started an investigation into the cause of the fatal assault on Mallorca, last Wednesday, which took the life of a 27-year-old man from Waddinxveen. Justice wants to find out what the role of nine young people from Hilversum and Bussum, who are suspected of the fatal violence. The investigation in the Netherlands runs parallel to a Spanish investigation in this case. Justice in Spain has not yet requested the extradition of the suspects.
The Public Prosecution Service emphasizes that the initiative for the prosecution of the suspects lies with the Spanish public prosecutor. But the Public Prosecution Service sees sufficient legal basis for its own investigation because it concerns Dutch suspects and a Dutch victim.
The suspects are still at large. Eight of the nine left for the Netherlands after the incident on Mallorca, the ninth was arrested and questioned by the Spanish police. He was released because footage showed he was not involved in the violence.
According to Spanish media, the Gooi youths attacked a group of five Dutch friends in Playa de Palma at night. Three of the free were injured, the fourth lost consciousness and the fifth was hospitalized after being kicked hard in the head. He later died of brain damage.
Images of the abuse, which can be found at GeenStijl, have also been forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service.
