The reason is the large overlap and concurrence of complaints at the two institutions. The merger should ensure a more efficient handling of complaints about credit registrations, says the Kifid.
As of 1 October, the complaints desk of the Credit Registration Office, the BKR Disputes Committee, will be transferred to the financial complaints institute. Consumers with loans from €250 are automatically registered with BKR.
When paying off that loan on time, this does not immediately cause problems for taking out other loans, such as a mortgage, but can have consequences if someone does not do this. Then other lenders can receive a signal that payment is not made on time by means of a coding (negative registration).
The first step in a complaint about a credit registration is to submit it to the credit provider that made the registration, such as a telecom company that sells telephones, advises Kifid. If the consumer cannot come to an agreement with the provider, he can go to the complaints desk.
Submitting a complaint does not cost any money. If a hearing has to be held to hear parties about a complaint, it will take place online or physically at the Kifid in The Hague. There are also no costs involved.
