Islamabad, July 11, 2023: Netherlands and Pakistan celebrate their 75th anniversaryth On the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries pledged to continue to further strengthen bilateral, economic and cultural ties for a prosperous future.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands established formal diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in July 1948. However, economic cooperation between the two countries had already begun 400 years before her, with the establishment of a Dutch trading post on the coast of Thatta, Sindh.

Federal Coordinating Minister for Climate Change and Environment Shelly Lehmann was the guest of honor. The ceremony was attended by senior foreign ministry officials, senior government officials, diplomatic corps, civil society, journalists and representatives of the business community.

Speaking on the occasion, Dutch Ambassador Henny De Vries said the celebration not only highlights the depth of partnership between the two countries, but is also a testament to the strength of cooperation and friendship. He said the Netherlands and Pakistan have built strong ties and will work towards promoting sustainable development, tackling climate change and fostering innovation.

Senator Sherry Lehman said Pakistan values ​​its long-standing relationship with the Netherlands, and thanked the Netherlands for its consistent support to address Pakistan’s climate challenges, especially after last year’s floods. “Pakistan looks forward to further strengthening bilateral relations and is eager to learn from the Dutch expertise in disaster risk reduction, water and flood management. It’s the highlight of the relationship,” she added.

The ceremony also celebrated the birthday of His Majesty Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands. Alongside the reception, a photo exhibition titled “After Us The Deluge” by renowned Dutch photographer Kadir van Lohuizen was held. It showed the impact of sea level rise caused by global warming on local communities.
