The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a yellow weather warning against strong winds for the third consecutive day. Winds up to 80 kilometers per hour are expected in Amsterdam and other parts of North Holland.

Strong winds expected in the northernmost state of the Netherlands

The Netherlands has faced strong winds and heavy rains over the past few days, and KNMI issued a weather warning for the last day while the weather was set to be a little clearer in time for the weekend.

From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Friday, October 22, yellow code warnings will be issued in the four northernmost states of the Netherlands (North Holland, Flevoland, Friesland and Groningen). In this part of the country, it is 75-90 kilometers per hour.

KNMI warned that traffic and outdoor activities could be adversely affected by current weather conditions and advised Friday’s plans to take strong winds into account.

The Netherlands continues to fight fierce storms

On Friday, strong winds have issued weather warnings in the Netherlands for the third consecutive day. Some parts of the country have been severely damaged as a result of strong winds and small tornadoes.

The towns of Barendrecht (near Rotterdam) and Schellenberg (near Nijmegen) were hit by a tornado on Wednesday night. At least four people were injured in Barendrecht and one was taken to the hospital for treatment. Utrecht and its surrounding areas were also heavily affected by the storm.
