Laptops increasingly difficult to deliver: these recommendations of less than 700 euros are still there | Tech

The search for a good laptop is now extremely difficult. Shortages mean that the supply is much smaller than in previous years, so you sometimes have to pay more for a nice machine. For those who want to spend a maximum of 700 euros, we have found a few interesting options.

Every two months we go in collaboration with techsite Tweakers looking for the best laptops. When we looked up the best options below 500 euros in an earlier article last week, the supply turned out to be scarce. Actually, there were only two really good options, one of which is on the verge of disappearing from the market.

This time we look at the offer up to 700 euros, which offers a little more breathing space. Yet here too there is a great scarcity: one of the three laptops we had in mind seems to have disappeared from the shops. This leaves only the Acer Swift 3 and Lenovo IdeaPad 3.

We also named the Acer Swift 3 laptop in this category in February Best Buy because of its good balance between speed, build quality and portability. It is a 14-inch laptop, so a size smaller than the standard 15-inch format. The laptop is light, as it weighs only 1.21 kilograms. The housing is largely made of aluminum. Only the edge around the screen is made of plastic.

Due to the use of metal, it still feels sturdy, although you can easily press it in the middle. The keyboard has backlighting and a fingerprint scanner at the bottom right. In short, you are equipped with everything you expect on a laptop for this money.

You can see that at the connections; everything you expect on the laptop is there. That means a normal USB connection on the left, but also a USB-C connection that is also multifunctional. This means that you can connect USB devices to it, but also a screen – and you can also use the connection to charge the laptop.

You can of course also connect a screen to the HDMI connection. The right USB connection is unfortunately of the slow kind. Unfortunately, a card reader is missing.

‘Good value for money’ is a statement that also applies to laptops, and this is clearly evident with the IdeaPad 3. The laptop is equipped with a more powerful processor than we saw in the above laptop, with eight instead of six cores.

In addition, there is 512 gigabytes of storage and, just like the other laptop, 8 gigabytes of RAM. This makes the Lenovo the more powerful option. The price is comparable at 700 euros, so you may wonder why the HP is not equipped with such a fast processor.

That soon becomes clear when you hold the IdeaPad 3. The motif on the case refers to brushed aluminum, but it is clearly plastic. Moreover, that plastic is not sturdy, because the housing springs back easily when you put pressure on it. This also applies to the plastic cover of the screen, which easily bends back and forth when you grasp it at the top corners.

Savings are being made on even more points, because the webcam has an exceptionally low resolution. The IdeaPad 3 is again equipped with a fingerprint scanner, which is inconspicuously concealed in the on / off button.

We like the card reader on the right and the number of USB connections on the left, two of which offer a high transfer speed. There is also an HDMI connection, but it does not work with 4K screens. USB-C is not present at all.
