Last year Lucinda Riley was in the Netherlands to receive an award, a Platinum Book, from the CPNB. The moment she got the microphone, she talked about the importance of reading, what stories meant to her, how she’d always had her nose in books as a child. Not a word about her price or about the staggering amount of readers she had managed to attract to her books. “That was typical Lucinda,” says her Dutch publisher, Sander Knol. “The moment she is in the spotlight, drawing attention to something else, something that she thought is much more important, the reading culture.”
