Olympique Lyon lost two points in battle for the French national title. On a visit to Olympique Marseille, Memphis Depay and associates drew 1-1 with which it had to give up second place.
It would have been very close if Olympique Lyon had become the big winner of the weekend in France. Because leader Lille OSC lost two points in-house against Strasbourg, Lyon could have the number one on only two points. However, Lyon also failed to take the full loot and could eventually still be happy with a draw.
Because Lyon finished the game on a visit to Olympique Marseille with ten men, after Lucas Pacquetá was sent off with a red card twenty minutes before the end. At that moment the final score was already on the scoreboard: Karl Toko Ekambi had opened the score before half time, after which ex-Ajax player Arek Milik equalized the score just before the interruption. It was the second goal in French service for the Polish striker. Despite the man-more situation, Marseille could not deliver a final blow.
At Lyon, Memphis Depay was on the verge of the attack. The captain received a yellow card in the final phase, after he got into trouble with Álvaro González. The Spanish defender previously made the news after arguments with Neymar. With his team, Memphis had to accept that Lille was not punished for the point loss. Not Lyon, but Paris Saint-Germain eventually became the big winner of the weekend. Thanks to a 0-4 victory on a visit to Dijon, PSG took second place from Lyon.
