Electronics chain MediaMarkt is currently undergoing a cyber attack. As a result of the hack, collection and returns are no longer possible. A spokesperson for the company confirmed this on Monday afternoon after reporting by RTL Nieuws. The shops are open as usual, it is also possible to order online.
The cyber attack has been known to MediaMarkt since Monday morning, but the hackers may have had access to the systems for some time. According to the spokesman, this will be “not much longer” than the night from Sunday to Monday. Branches across ‘all of Europe’ have been affected. The company is still investigating what exactly is going on.
According to internal communication in the hands of RTL Nieuws, computers that are in the shops can no longer be used because they are encrypted. The company would also ask employees to remove internet cables from cash registers and not to reboot systems. The spokesperson could not confirm this.
