Daniëlle van de Donk has booked the second victory in the group stage of the Champions League with Olympique Lyon. The French top club defeated Benfica 5-0, partly due to a goal from the Dutch. Vivanne Miedema and Lieke Martens also cheered on other fields.
Benfica, which eliminated FC Twente in the second preliminary round of the Champions League, was not involved against Lyon. Kadeisha Buchanan opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Van de Donk made it 2-0 two minutes later. In the second half, the French ran further through hits from Melvine Malard, Catarina Macario from a penalty and again Buchanan.
Vivianne Miedema recovered with Arsenal from the 4-1 defeat against FC Barcelona. It was 4-0 against Hoffenheim in London. Kim Little put the home side 1-0 from a penalty kick. Tobin Heath doubled the lead just before half time after Miedema headed through. In the second half, Miedema took care of the 3-0. After goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic had stopped a shot by Jordan Nobbs, the Dutch international scored from the rebound. In the final phase, Leah Williamson scored the fourth goal with a hard header.
Earlier in the evening, Barcelona won 2-0 in Denmark against HB Køge. Fridolina Rolfö opened the scoring for Barça in the 63rd minute. The Swedish tapped in on a clean cross from Martens. Deep into injury time, Jennifer Hermoso made it 0-2 from a penalty. Bayern Munich recorded the first victory in the other group. The German team of Lineth Beerensteyn was 4-0 too strong for the Swedish BK Häcken FF at home.
