Prevention programs such as Kanjertraining, Vrienden, Happyles and mindfulness training are circulating at various schools. For a long time it was unclear whether students of these training courses became more resilient and whether psychological problems could be prevented. “But extensive British research now shows that mindfulness has no effect at all. And that probably applies to more such training sessions,” says Cuijpers.
Children who were already bad in their own skin feel even worse after such a training than before, Trouw writes. This is consistent with previous findings. Low-threshold prevention programs therefore make children even more aware of their psychological distress, but they offer too little support.
