The Italian won the sprint of the peloton after the four remaining refugees were caught in the final kilometer. He stayed ahead of Frenchman Benoît Cosnefroy and Romanian Eduard-Michael Grosu and recorded his first win since the 2018 Ruta del Sol.
The third stage went from Mondorf-les-Bains to Mamer over 189.3 kilometers. Five riders, including Australian Ben O’Connor who won the ninth stage in the Tour de France, rode long ahead. They seemed to be caught at 6 kilometers from the finish, but four of them were given a little space and were only overtaken by the sprinting peloton in the final kilometer. Of these, Modolo was the fastest.
Marc Hirschi holds the leader’s jersey. The Swiss from Team Emirates is four seconds ahead of the Portuguese João Almeida. The Tour of Luxembourg lasts until Saturday.
