Most regional train and bus services go on strike Thursday and Friday – The Northern Times

Dougblad van Het Norden reports that most buses and regional trains are unlikely to operate on Thursdays and Fridays due to planned strikes. NS trains will run on a regular schedule, as will public transport in Randstad (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague).

Ongoing talks with Arriva, a major shipping company in the north, are focused on raising wages for workers given inflation. Unions also want a more manageable workload for employees (and therefore less sick leave).

Local public transport in the north includes: Arriba Trains (and buses) in Groningen, Drenthe, Friesland, and Q Buzz Groningen and Drenthe bus.

according to omlop frislan, the FNV (Federal Dutch Labor Movement), the largest union for bus drivers and train employees, is calling on its members to strike for the next two days. Another transport workers’ union, the CNV (Christian National Union), has issued a statement declaring solidarity with the FNV but is not currently planning a strike.

There have been regular strikes on public transport in recent months. September October, when public transportation across the country stopped. The protests are driven by continued efforts by unions to improve their members’ collective bargaining agreements.

In addition to public transport employees, FNV (founded in 1976) also represents professionals working in a wide range of fields, including agriculture, security, construction, finance, IT, youth care and media.
