Nearly 6,000 new corona infections and 139 hospitalizations in one day

50 percent increase

The 5,903 new infections are a sharp increase compared to the number of 3,895 infections that were reported last Tuesday, an increase of no less than 50 percent. On Wednesday, the number of new infections was 4,574 and on Thursday there were 5,195. All in all, a clear advance of the coronavirus

Hospital admissions also on the rise

A corresponding increase appears to be visible in the number of daily hospital admissions. For example, the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) reports that 139 new COVID patients were admitted to Dutch hospitals on Friday, 33 more than yesterday. Of the new COVID patients, 21 have been admitted to the ICU, 3 more than yesterday and 118 in the clinic, 30 more than yesterday. “The average number of new admissions has increased last week for both the ICU and the clinic,” the LCPS reported Friday.

‘Influx has doubled’

The influx of COVID patients increased last week for both ICU and clinic. The same goes for the COVID occupation. Ernst Kuipers, chairman of LNAZ: ‘We see that the influx has doubled in the past period. The occupancy is now also rising and we expect it to rise to about 800 COVID patients in total in the ICU and in the clinic.

National distribution of COVID patients

Due to the increase in the number of corona patients in hospitals, the LCPS started spreading COVID patients between the regions again on Wednesday 20 October.
