Marcel van Raaij will take over the activities of Jaap van Delden as program director of the COVID-19 vaccination program on 15 June 2021. The current program management was temporarily appointed to start the vaccination program. Now that the vaccination campaign is underway, the new program director and management are continuing to manage it.
The new program management is temporarily appointed to bridge the phase until the COVID-19 vaccination can be incorporated more structurally into the organization of the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. In addition, the task is to safeguard the processes that have been deployed and to further improve them where necessary and possible.
Fall 2020: the start of the COVID-19 vaccination program
In the autumn of 2020, the COVID-19 vaccination program was started under high pressure and expectations on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport). A complex and challenging task, partly because of the limited and uncertain availability of vaccines and advancing scientific insight into the use of the various vaccines. Now that the implementation and delivery of vaccines has gained momentum, the management of the program can be transferred to a new program management.
New program management
Marcel van Raaij, now director of Medicines and Medical Technology at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, will join the team from mid-May and will be responsible for the new four-person program management as of 15 June. Ronald Jansen will be appointed as deputy director, Mariska van Blankers as deputy director for stakeholder management and a fourth operational manager, still to be appointed, is currently being recruited.
