American sportswear manufacturer Nike is temporarily closing all its stores in Russia. It is thus the umpteenth western company that has ceased activities in Russia, at least temporarily, because of the invasion of Ukraine. Earlier this week, Nike had already closed its Russian webshop.
Clothing brands such as H&M and Burberry have taken similar steps. Earlier this week it became clear that Russians will have to do without the latest iPhones and other Apple products. The American tech group also wants to limit payments via Apple Pay and other digital services in Russia.
Nike has 100 stores in Russia, according to its website. It is therefore a large market for the American company. For example, Nike has 250 stores in the United States and 10 in the Netherlands.
