NOS Sports senior editor resigns over bullying allegations

Public broadcaster NOS Sport’s four-strong editorial board resigns following a string of allegations of bullying, discrimination and sexual harassment.

In addition, NOS Director Gerald Timmer said on Thursday afternoon that a new independent investigation had begun into dozens of reports of potentially unacceptable behavior. Reports date him back 20 years.

The resignation will not be immediate, but will be over time to ensure continuity of sports coverage.

The news follows the publication of a report by the Independent Integrity Officer, which also indicates that people who reported the issue feel they are not being taken seriously enough.

The investigation was launched in December following revelations about the popular chat show De Wereld Draait Door. The show’s star, his presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, has been the subject of widespread allegations of bullying.

Commercial broadcaster RTL also announced plans to investigate possible honesty and bullying issues. NOS Sports senior editor resigns over bullying allegations
