Hospital admissions: +20%
The number of new patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 rose to 385 admissions last week. That is 20% more than a week earlier. 81 new COVID-19 patients were admitted to the IC intensive care unit, 14% more than in the previous week’, according to the RIVM.
25,751 positive reports
Last week, 25,751 positive test results were reported, an increase of 44% compared to the previous week. Per 100,000 inhabitants, 152 people received a positive test result. More than 198,000 people were tested at the GGD Municipal Health Service, a quarter more than the week before. The percentage of people with a positive test result increased from 10.3% to 12.0%. The increase in the number of positive corona tests seems to be related to the relaxation of more than three weeks ago, in combination with the seasonal effect.
Increase visible in all regions and in all age groups
The number of positive corona tests increased in all age groups. The number of reports per 100,000 inhabitants was highest in the age groups under 50, just like in the week before. An increase in the number of reported positive tests is visible in all safety regions. Most positive test results per 100,000 inhabitants were reported in the safety regions IJsselland (263), Zuid-Holland-Zuid (250), Gelderland-Midden (216) and Limburg-North (215).
Positive self-test? Go to the GGD test street for confirmation
In the event of a positive self-test result, the advice is that people have themselves tested at the GGD to confirm the positive self-test result and to exclude a false-positive self-test. Last week, more than 198,000 people were tested at the GGD, of which 12.0% had a positive test result. Six percent of these tests were administered to people after a positive self-test. Of these 12,370 people who had themselves tested at the GGD after a positive self-test result, the percentage was positive 84.6%. In people who were tested without a positive self-test result, the percentage was positive 7.2%.
The number of patients with COVID-19 admitted to hospital rose to 385 in the past week, a 20% increase. 81 patients with COVID-19 were admitted to the ICU intensive care unit, which is 10 new patients more than in the previous week (+14%).
Most hospitalized patients are not vaccinated
There are regional differences in hospital admissions. In the past week, compared to the number of inhabitants in the region, most patients from the regions of Limburg-North, Gelderland-Midden, IJsselland and Limburg-South were hospitalized with COVID-19. Not all patients are always admitted to a hospital in their own region. Most people hospitalized with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated against SARS severe acute respiratory syndrome -CoV coronavirus -2. In intensive care units, 4 in 5 COVID-19 patients are not vaccinated.
The most recent reproduction number of October 4, based on the number of positive corona tests, has increased from 1.12 to 1.20 (lower limit 1.16 – upper limit 1.24). This means that 100 people who have corona together infect 120 new people. So the virus is spreading again. ‘Prevent spread, stay home with complaints and get tested’, is the advice of the RIVM.
