Orange trains behind closed doors | European Football Championship

The Netherlands will train again on Saturday towards the end of the morning. A few hours later, De Boer gives a press conference for Sunday’s game.

The employability of Matthijs de Ligt must become clear by Saturday at the latest. The Juventus defender is recovering from a groin injury. De Ligt has participated in an increasing part of the group training in recent days. He said on Thursday that there is a 50 to 60 percent chance that he will make the game against Ukraine.

If De Ligt is not fit in time, Jurriën Timber seems the most logical replacement. Timber replaced De Ligt on Sunday in the final exhibition game against Georgia (3-0).

With the exception of De Ligt, everyone is fit at Orange.

Orange looking for first European Championship victory since 2008

The Dutch national team hopes to win a match at a European championship for the first time in years on Sunday. The last victory dates from thirteen years ago. On June 17, 2008, the Orange squad, which was then led by national coach Marco van Basten, defeated Romania in the group stage 2-0.

At the European Championship of 2012 with Bert van Marwijk as national coach, the Netherlands, which had reached the World Cup final two years earlier, lost all group matches.

The Netherlands, led by first Guus Hiddink and then Danny Blind, failed to qualify for the European Championship in 2016. Ronald Koeman then managed to lead the Orange squad to the European Championship in 2020.
