Dutch football authorities say the men’s national football team will wear OneLove armbands at the World Cup in Qatar, even if it means paying a fine.

The KNVB said it would follow the example of the football associations of England and Wales in wearing anti-discrimination armbands, although the international football federation (FIFA) has not yet endorsed the move.

“We will make that statement, and if there is a fine, so be it” Guis de Jong told the NOS.

The rainbow armband Source of controversy two weeks ago When two Eredivisie captains, Feyenoord’s Orkun Kökçü and Excelsior’s Redouan El Yaakoubi, refused to participate in a campaign to coincide with the coming-out day of the national competition.

The KNVB then abandoned plans to repeat the campaign next month as they wanted to avoid another discussion of “who wears armbands and who doesn’t”.

Orange will begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal on 20 November.
