It is currently very warm and dry in the area around the col where the seventh stage finishes. On Friday, the mercury will rise to around thirty degrees Celsius.
There were undoubtedly many fans who wanted to be present on the first category mountain (8.4 kilometers at 6.2%), where the first real stage for the classification riders finishes.
Between the starting point of Gandía and the top of the Balcón de Alicante, the peloton has to cover 152 kilometers, with five climbs on the way: one of the first, two of the second and two of the third category.
The red leader’s jersey in the Vuelta is currently in the hands of Estonian Rein Taaramäe. The Intermaché rider crashed in the last 3 kilometers on Tuesday, but that has no consequences for his place in the general classification.
Taaramäe is 25 seconds ahead of Frenchman Kenny Elissonde and 30 seconds ahead of Jumbo-Visma’s Slovenian favorite Primoz Roglic.
