According to some of the Dutch, the 150 million euros with which the Dutch state wants to purchase the painting De Vaandeldrager by Rembrandt could be better spent, Hart van Nederland reports after research among more than 2800 members of the Hart van Nederland panel. Most participants (58 percent) would prefer to see the millions go to healthcare.
It is also suggested to compensate people who are not financially well off for the high inflation or to use it to compensate people who have been financially affected by the corona measures. Improving education and support for the entire cultural sector are mentioned, but less often, according to Hart van Nederland.
On Wednesday it was announced that the Rothschild family has agreed to sell the painting De Vaandrager by Rembrandt to the Netherlands for 175 million euros. The Dutch state will pay 150 million euros of this.
