Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove failed to create a sensation at Wimbledon. She lost in three sets to the Polish Iga Swiatek, who already recorded her 37th victory in a row. It was 6-4 4-6 6-3 at Court 1, Wimbledon’s second stadium.
The 30-year-old Pattinama-Kerkhove, the number 138 in the world, was added to the schedule at the last minute as a lucky loser on Tuesday. She had lost in the final round of qualifying, but was allowed to take the place of an injured player.
Swiatek (21) last lost in mid-February. Since her defeat in Dubai, she has won six tournaments in a row, including Roland Garros.
Due to the elimination of Pattinama-Kerkhove, the Netherlands is only represented in the men’s singles. Arantxa Rus, the best tennis player in the Netherlands, already lost in the opening round.
