Paul Verhoeven makes his comeback in Hollywood for a political thriller: Young Sinner. That reports variety. The 83-year-old director, known for films like Fatal Attraction and (recently) Benedetta, wants the film to be more ‘explosive’ than its previous thrillers.
Verhoeven will direct the film and will collaborate with Edward Neumeier, the man with whom he worked in the United States. Robocop and Starship Troopers made. Verhoeven has already talked about his comeback before. In conversation with Movie Maker, the director stated that Young Sinner is an “innovative version of films like” Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct must be’.
Verhoeven also wants to use as little as possible special effects for Young Sinner and hopes to make the film more “explosive” than his other thrillers.
According to Neumeier, Young Sinner will be a political thriller, in which ‘a little sex’ will appear. The film tells the story of a young Washington staffer who works for a powerful senator. He is drawn into a web of international intrigue and danger.
Verhoeven got the wind from the front in July during the Cannes Film Festival where he finally released his long-awaited lesbian nun epic. Benedetta showed to the world. In the most controversial scene, a statue of Mary is used as a dildo. Verhoeven said about that at that film festival: ,,Everyone is talking about that dildo. While I personally think the torture scene at the end is much worse. But strangely enough you don’t hear about that.”
