Peace becomes an important theme during Eurovision Song Contest | Culture

“The Ukrainian delegation confirmed its arrival and surprisingly met all the deadlines,” said Martorelli. According to her, work is also being done on the so-called live-on-tape, the backup that all Eurovision artists must make again this year in case they cannot be there. These were first introduced last year due to the corona crisis.

The band Kalush Orchestra is participating on behalf of Ukraine. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia has been excluded from participation and Ukraine itself is now a high favorite to win the Eurovision Song Contest. However, the band members of Kalush Orchestra are not so concerned with it, as it turned out last weekend.

“Eurovision is very important to us, but the lives of our family and friends are even more important,” Kalush Orchestra frontman Oleh Psiuk shared on social media. “We are now doing everything we can to help our country. One of our band members is currently fighting in Kiev and I have set up a volunteer organization. We help people to provide shelter, to move and to find medicine.”

Structure

The stage build-up in Pala Alpitour, the Turin hall where the event will be held, started on Tuesday. The Italian broadcaster Rai wants everything ready by mid-April, just before the first delegations arrive. The first rehearsals start at the end of April. For the Netherlands, singer S10 is participating.

It is not yet clear when ticket sales will start. Because of corona it is probably not possible to fill the entire hall yet.
