PEC Zwolle, the only club in the Eredivisie that has not yet taken a point this season and has not even scored a goal, has ended up with 36-year-old Ryan Koolwijk and 21-year-old Leandro Fernandes in the hunt for points.
Koolwijk was transfer-free, because he was no longer in the plans of trainer Gertjan Verbeek at his old club Almere City. For that reason, the midfielder and the club decided to terminate his contract at the end of August.
Koolwijk still came into action in the first four league matches of the Almere team. In total, he played more than four hundred league matches in professional football.
Koolwijk previously played for Excelsior, NEC, FC Dordrecht and AS Trencin. Last summer he played on behalf of Suriname in the Gold Cup, the final tournament for countries in the Caribbean and North and Central America.
Youth academy Juventus
Fernandes exchanged PSV’s youth academy in 2018 for that of Juventus. He did not get to play in the first team at the Italian top club, so he was loaned out to Fortuna Sittard and Pescara.
Two season ago he played five Eredivisie matches for the Dutch club.
