Dutch driver killed after truck plows into camper in Germany

A Dutch man driving his motorhome was killed Monday morning after being rear-ended by a truck driver. The victim, a 60-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 60-year-old passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, German police said.

The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Monday, during heavy traffic at a construction site on the southbound rear half of Autobahn 1 near West Wildeshausen. The 41-year-old truck driver didn’t notice the traffic and crashed into a mobile home. The truck then collided with two other trucks.

Police said the mobile home was at the end of a traffic jam. Police said the truck collided with the vehicle with “almost no braking”.

“A 60-year-old Dutch camper driver and 60-year-old passenger were trapped inside and had to be rescued from the vehicle by ambulance crews.” declared. The woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but was in a critical condition.

A truck driver, identified as a man from Langwedel, also suffered minor injuries. He was also treated in hospital.

The trailer house was completely destroyed in this accident. Other vehicles involved were also badly damaged and had to be towed from the site about 30 minutes from Bremen. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
