Possible new plot to enter US parliament | Abroad
Capitol Police have indications that a militia may be planning to enter parliament in Washington on Thursday. The service says it is prepared for all possible threats against the US Congress and members of parliament.
“We have obtained intelligence demonstrating a possible plot by an identified militia group to enter the Capitol on Thursday, March 4,” Capitol police said in a statement on Twitter.
The Capitol was stormed on January 6 by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. About 800 people then entered the Washington parliament building, killing five.
The Capitol police were accused of taking action too late and ill-prepared. After the storm, numerous security measures were taken, including a fence and extra personnel.
The agency says in a statement it is working with Washington police and the FBI to stop any threat. The information about the threat from the militia is taken seriously. Details cannot be given due to its “sensitive nature”.
In the US, more than 270 people have now been charged in connection with the attack on the parliament building.
