With debutants Guus Til and Marcus Pedersen in the starting line-up, the first game of the second preliminary round of the Conference League was entered into by trainer Arne Slot. Away from FC Drita from Kosovo, the foundation had to be laid to finish it in the return next week in the Kuip. After all, FC Lucerne awaits after that. Provided FC Drita is put aside.
In the Gjilan City Stadium FC Drita and Feyenoord did not really make a nice spectacle of it. Slot’s team did have the upper hand and Naoufal Bannis got a nice chance, who stopped the FC Drita keeper well with his legs. The Kosovars showed themselves sparsely through the counter.
But the match dragged on. Feyenoord wanted to, but played at too low a tempo to destroy the opponent. The Rotterdammers were dominant, but too easygoing in the first half. FC Drita actually showed nothing at all.
Feyenoord did not manage to get past FC Drita.
The game was not much different after the break. Feyenoord had a lot of ball possession, but this did not really lead to flowing combinations, let alone opportunities. In the 60th minute, Luis Sinisterra – in any case the dangerous man on the Feyenoord side – had a nice goal, but his effort was parried.
Mega chance Til
Feyenoord really should have scored in the 70th minute. Finally a cross from Pedersen on the right did arrive, but Til aimed with the left just in front of the goal. The greatest opportunity for the Rotterdammers.
At the end of the match, Slot’s team came very close to a goal, but substitute Francesco Antonucci aimed for the post. Feyenoord will have to change things up in the Kuip next Thursday to prevent a failure.
