Toon Gerbrands looks back on the PSV season with a satisfied feeling. “We have performed to the maximum this season, because you also have to give Ajax the credits”, says the general manager.
“Ajax has changed course since 2018, when they had not become champions for four consecutive years, and that is now paying off in these years,” said Gerbrands. “We have not yet been able to take the step to hook up this season, so in all reasonableness: second place is now the maximum for us.”
Gerbrands believes that trainer Roger Schmidt has taken the right route to start harvesting with the PSV selection. “We have made progress, so we are on track to win prizes again.”
PSV players respect each other in the Gaza conflict
The general manager also says he was “impressed” how the players of PSV have dealt with the armed conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Israeli Eran Zahavi showed his sympathy for his fellow countrymen via social media, while Pablo Rosario, Jordan Teze and Mohamed Ihattaren called attention to the fate of the Palestinians via social media.
“It seemed to be an issue, but I must honestly say: they solved it very professionally. It was very nice to see how that conversation went”, says Gerbrands.
