Rangers FC hit hard by coronavirus on the way to crucial game | Foreign football

The corona virus has hit Scottish football club Rangers FC. The national champion has therefore ended up in Armenia without coach Steven Gerrard and with a battered selection for the return Thursday evening against Alashkert in the play-offs for the Europa League.

The club management has not announced how many players have been tested positive for the corona virus. According to media reports, it concerns at least six football players, including captain James Tavernier. Gerrard is said to have gone into isolation as a precaution.

Rangers defend a 1-0 lead in Armenia. Assistant coach Gary McAllister takes over from Gerrard. “But he will still handle all discussions with the players himself,” McAllister said.

For Rangers, the top match against fellow townsman Celtic is on the program on Sunday. The title holder may ask for a postponement for the ever-laden derby at the club due to the corona wave.
