European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has made a record profit in 2021, after two years of significant losses. The company has announced that it will resume paying dividends. At the outbreak of the corona pandemic, Airbus had canceled the profit distribution to shareholders in order to strengthen its own finances.

Net profit amounted to 4.2 billion euros. That was a minus of 1.3 billion euros in 2020. Then Airbus was hit hard by the corona crisis because airlines canceled or postponed orders due to travel restrictions against the virus outbreak. Last year, turnover rose by 4 percent to 52.1 billion euros.

Airbus delivered 611 commercial aircraft for the full year, an increase of 8 percent. The company is targeting 720 deliveries this year. Net order intake almost doubled to 507 devices.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury speaks in an explanation of a transition year in 2021, in which attention shifted from getting through the pandemic to recovery and growth.
