Researchers: ‘Children listen to music that is too loud for too long’

Listening to music while cycling, doing homework or when you go to sleep. Almost all children do. But according to researchers, this often does not happen safely.

Children listen to loud music for too long. Often several hours a day with earphones or headphones on. Ear doctors and other experts are very concerned about it.

One in eight young people suffers from initial hearing damage. Once you have that, your ears cannot recover from it.

What is hearing damage?

There are very fine hairs in your ear. The vibrations of those hairs transmit sound to your brain.

But loud music or noise can damage the hair. If this happens too often, the cilia will no longer transmit all the information, which will make you hear less well. Or they transmit wrong things, such as a beep.

According to the experts, you can easily prevent these kinds of problems. For example, by using a volume limiter on your phone.
