Found new mutation
RIVM is concerned about a new mutation in the British variant, code-named E484K. This E484K mutation has also been demonstrated in the South African and Brazilian variants. With this mutation, the built-up resistance may be less good after vaccination or after a previous infection. It probably also affects the strength of the virus’s binding to cells in our body.
The new mutation has so far been found once in the Netherlands, in a positive person at the GGD region of Utrecht. The GGD carries out source and contact research. This mutation has already been found 23 times in the UK.
