Robin van Roosmalen appreciates Badr Hari’s support: ‘I heard the sadness in his voice’ | Sport

In particular, the support of Badr Hari did the Brabant fighter well. “He doesn’t advertise it, but Badr sent me text messages and voice memos for days. I just heard the sadness in his voice. He has experienced the same with his sister, who also passed away at a young age. ”

Every now and then Van Roosmalen still receives messages from Hari. Last again. “Then he sent something like, ‘Hey Robin, how are you now? I think alot about you.’ I really appreciate that. He also said that if I need anything, I can always turn to him. Yes, I really have a lot of respect for Badr. ”

Uncertain

Although van Roosmalen is recovering relatively well from his injuries, it remains highly uncertain whether the former Glory doubles champion (feather and lightweight) will ever return to the ring. “The doctors will probably not be able to say more about that until next year. If I fully recover, I want to fight again, but then physically I really have to be one hundred percent the same. ”

Peace with it

On September 29, 2018, Van Roosmalen came into action for the last time. He then lost his featherweight title on points to the Thai Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao. “When it later turns out that I have fought my last match, I am at peace with that. I have achieved a lot throughout my career. I have been a double world champion in kickboxing. An MMA title at Bellator, where I am currently under contract, would have come full circle, but it is what it is. My health is the most important thing. ”

Management role

In any case, Van Roosmalen wants to remain active within the sport. Eventually he wants to focus on a management role. “I see that fighters are often poorly supervised outside of matches. As a result, they make wrong choices. I want to help with that. ”
