Roger Schmidt thinks PSV has become stronger | Football

Confronted with Ajax and Feyenoord’s victories over Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin respectively, Schmidt said the Eredivisie is often underestimated. ,,I do not do that. It is a good quality competition. There are simple matches. I’ve always said that. That is no surprise to me.”

Ajax sometimes vulnerable

In the Arena, PSV came across a team that showed that there are simple matches. By winning 9-0, the team from Amsterdam provided convincing proof of this. But Ajax is sometimes also vulnerable, as it turned out in the match for the Johan Cruijff scale. ,,In that game we played well on the counter,’ said Schmidt, who saw his team quickly take a 2-0 lead. ,,After that we defended well. After the red card for Tagliafico, we did very well tactically and scored two more times.”

“The players will have to be mentally ready after the slap dealt by Monaco”

It was one of the four matches against Ajax in which Schmidt was on the bench at PSV. ,,Both teams often had the same composition in those matches. Ajax believes in his playing style. So do we. Rightly so, because we won once and lost once to Ajax. Two matches ended in a draw. So there isn’t much difference,” said Schmidt.

He believes that his team should certainly not approach Ajax too passively. ,,Then they come into their game and they can dominate the game. That is not the solution to get a good result in the Arena.”

Schmidt did not want to complain about the shorter preparation that PSV has compared to Ajax. ,,You want to prepare for such a confrontation in the best possible way. We have two days to do this and we will make the most of it. The players will have to be mentally ready after the slap handed out by Monaco. Then we can play a good match against Ajax.”
