The collaboration between navigator Wouter Rosegaar and rally driver Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi was short-lived. The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in Abu Dhabi served as a test for the upcoming Dakar Rally. Afterwards, both decided that it would stay with that one rally.
,,There wasn’t really synergy, like I’ve had with other drivers in the past. That feeling was mutual. And the Dakar Rally is too long and too intensive to continue anyway”, explains Rosegaar. The navigator from Zeeland would aim for the top ten in the car ranking with Al Qassimi in Saudi Arabia. The driver from the United Arab Emirates finished seventh at the beginning of this year.
When organizer ASO announced the list of participants with start numbers for the cars, buggies and trucks earlier this week, Rosegaar was still linked to Al Qassimi. De Brabander had that adjusted immediately.
The mutual cancellation of the agreement does not mean that Rosegaar will have to watch the Dakar Rally in January. The Zeelander still has an iron in the fire. He hopes to be able to use his experience gained in fourteen Dakar Rallies in another team. Those negotiations have not yet been completed.
