State Secretary Gunay Uslu (Culture and Media) finds it “disappointing” that the museums, stages and theaters have to keep their doors closed. She writes on Twitter that she is happy that drama, music and dance lessons are possible again.
Before the last corona meeting, Uslu had said that he wanted to “make himself hard” for the sector, but for the time being, the cultural sector will remain closed until at least 25 January. Then the next decision point for the cabinet. Relaxation in culture is then at the top of the priority list. The State Secretary is allocating an extra 3 million euros specifically for museums. For the time being, no extra money appears to be available for other cultural institutions.
According to Prime Minister Mark Rutte, it was not possible to open the cultural sector as well, because the current relaxation can already lead to 80,000 infections per day. “I understand that they are upset about this, I also think it is terrible,” said the Prime Minister.
