Skateboard star Candy Jacobs tests positive and has to draw a line through Games: ‘Huge deception’ | Olympics

For skateboarder Candy Jacobs, the Olympics are over before they even begin. She tested positive for Covid-19 and has been quarantined for ten days. Jacobs has been taken out of the competition according to the rules.

The possible danger of close contacts has been anticipated within the applicable protocols of TeamNL. The skateboard team has adhered to all the rules and can therefore continue in Tokyo. The medical staff is in close contact with Candy. ,,I’m devastated,” says Candy Jacobs.,,We were ready for the Games and I feel fit and now it stops. I need time to process this. I wish my team all the strength and success in Tokyo.”

“It is of course a huge disappointment for Candy,” says Chef de Mission Pieter van den Hoogenband. “She and we are doing everything we can to respect and enforce the rules and we try to exclude any risk. Fortunately, the rest of the team can continue with the Games. We will of course help her in her quarantine.”
