Herlings and Coldenhoff narrowly miss gold in Motocross of Nations

5:07 p.m. The Dutch motocross team was unable to extend the world title in the Motocross of Nations and achieved silver. Even though leader Jeffrey Herlings won two of the three heats in Mantua, Italy, his victories were just not enough to keep home country Italy from the gold. The difference was only 1 point

The Orange squad got off to a rough start after the disappointing placings of Roan van de Moosdijk and Glenn Coldenhoff in the first moto. Van de Moosdijk didn’t do much better in the second heat, but Herlings brought the Dutch team back in the title race with a supreme victory.

On paper, even the gold was still possible, but then Italy had to give up in the third moto. That didn’t happen, even though Alessandro Lupino fell way back in the closing laps. Herlings again took the first place and Coldenhoff finished nicely in third, but the second place of veteran Antonio Cairoli gave Italy just that one point more.

Britain’s motocross racers, with Ben Watson and Shaun Simpson as trumps, took the bronze

France took the lead after the first moto, which saw the riders from the MX2 and MXGP come out. Tom Vialle finished second and Benoît Paturel finished ninth, bringing the French team to 11 points.

Coldenhoff will be back in action later on Sunday in the MXGP and Open class rounds. Then Jeffrey Herlings, the leader and current leader in the individual World Championships, will also ride.

The Dutch team conquered the title in the Motocross of Nations for the first time in 2019 in Assen. Herlings and Coldenhoff were then part of the team.

The South Korean came back from 6-3 in the tiebreak in the final and grabbed the first set. In the second set he had a break more than his opponent, enough for the 6-3 set win.

Two years ago, at the last marathon in the German capital, Bekele was only 2 seconds above the global top time that Kipchoge set in Berlin in 2018: 2.01.39. Tennis players Europe close to title prolongation

9.33am: The tennis players of the European team are close to victory in the Laver Cup. After the second day, captain Björn Borg’s team leads 11-1 against captain John McEnroe’s team, which has tennis players from the rest of the world under his wing. Europe only needs one more win for title prolongation.

The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas started the second day in Boston with a victory over the Australian Nick Kyrgios: 6-3 6-4. The German Alexander Zverev was then too strong for the American John Isner in a super tiebreak: 7-6 (5) 6-7 (8) 10-5. Daniil Medvedev from Russia then convincingly defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov: 6-4 6-0.

Because the final doubles match was also won by the European tennis players, they ran from 3-1 to 11-1. The Russian Andrej Roeblev won with Tsitsipas against Isner and Kyrgios: 6-7 (8) 6-3 10-4. On the third day, each win is worth three points.

It is the fourth edition of the Laver Cup, in which tennis players from Europe compete against the rest of the world. The previous three editions in 2017, 2018 and 2019 were all won by the European team. Due to the corona pandemic, the game was postponed in 2020.
