Goalkeeper Marciano defends Feyenoord’s goal against Slavia Prague

5:34 PM: Ofir Marciano defends Feyenoord’s goal from 6.45 pm during the away match against Slavia Prague in the Conference League. The 32-year-old goalkeeper from Israel replaces Justin Bijlow, who was quarantined on Tuesday after a positive corana test.

Feyenoord took over Marciano from Hibernian on a free transfer last summer. The Israeli replaced Bijlow earlier this season during the away game against Elfsborg of the Conference League play-offs. Feyenoord lost that game 3-1. Fredrik Aursnes also has a base place at Feyenoord again. Alireza Jahanbakhsh therefore starts on the bench.

Feyenoord overwinters in Europe for the first time in seven years if it at least draws against Slavia, which is 4 points behind the current number 2 of the group. Feyenoord will close the group stage of the Conference League on December 9 with a home game against Maccabi Haifa.

Line-up Feyenoord: Marciano; Pedersen, Trauner, Senesi and Malacia; Aursnes, Til and Kökçü; Toornstra, Linssen and Sinisterra.

Short trackers achieve maximum number of starting spots for Games

2:55 pm: The Dutch short track speed skaters have also secured the third starting permit in the 1500 meters for the Olympic Games at the World Cup competition in Dordrecht. Sjinkie Knegt, Itzhak de Laat and Jens van ‘t Wout all qualified for the semi-finals and thus secured the maximum number of starting spots for the Beijing Games.

Knegt won his quarterfinal on the first of four days of the World Cup in Dordrecht, ahead of De Laat. Van ‘t Wout was third in his heat. The Dutch short track team is therefore allowed to take action at the Games with the maximum number of five men and five women and has three starting places at all individual distances. Until Thursday, the Netherlands was not yet certain of the third starting permit for the men in the 1500 meters.

The semi-finals of the 1500 meters will be held on Saturday. Suzanne Schulting and Rianne de Vries qualified for the semifinals of the short track players. Xandra Velzeboer finished fourth in her quarterfinals and missed the semifinals. For the women, all starting tickets had already been obtained.

African football countries likely to support biennial World Cup

11:57 am The African countries that are members of the world football association FIFA are likely to support the plans for a biennial football World Cup in large numbers. The African football federation CAF will meet in Cairo on Friday for an additional congress and the countries there are expected to give their approval to FIFA’s plans.

South Africa’s CAF president Patrice Motsepe has previously pledged support for the plan to hold the FIFA World Cup every two years rather than every four years as is now the case. “Developing countries benefit most from a World Cup every two years,” Motsepe said.

The CAF president is an ally of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who is committed to getting the proposal passed. However, the football associations of Europe and South America have spoken out against the plans.

Malaysia does not issue visas to Israel squash team

10:45 am Malaysia refuses to grant visas to Israeli participants in a major international squash tournament next month. The global World Squash Federation hopes that a solution can be found for Israel’s participation in the world championship for teams, which will take place from December 7-12 in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

The WSF says it is aware of the reports “that the Malaysian authorities have not currently accepted or issued visas to the squash team from Israel.” “The WSF is committed to the principle of an open and inclusive world championship in which all member countries wishing to participate are welcome,” the association said.

The international association says it is in contact with the squash association of Malaysia and hopes that a fair and practical solution can be reached. The Israeli Squash Federation is considering going to the international sports tribunal CAS if the WSF cannot resolve the situation. “It’s a shame that they mix sports with politics,” said President Aviv Bushinsky.

The predominantly Muslim Malaysia has no diplomatic relations with Israel. In 2019, the country was stripped of the World Para Swimming Championships because it threatened not to admit Israeli participants.

LeBron James returns strong after his first suspension

07:51 am LeBron James has made a strong comeback after the first-ever suspension in his basketball career. The 36-year-old James led his club Los Angeles Lakers in overtime past Indiana Pacers: 124-116. After regulation time, the score was 112-112.

James scored 39 points at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, including 8 in overtime. This made him good for two-thirds of the Lakers’ production in overtime.

“I just took the chances the defense gave me and just tried to get into a rhythm. I understand it was the closing stages, the time when it had to happen, especially in the fourth quarter and overtime,” said James. “Chris Duarte made an incredible point to send it into extra time. I just tried to have my part in that and I did that with a few shots.”

James was banned for the first time in his impressive career this week. In the night from Sunday to Monday during the game against Detroit Pistons, he hit Isaiah Stewart in the face, whether on purpose or not, who suffered a bleeding wound above his eye. James was only sent off the field for the second time in his career.

Without James, the Lakers lost 106-100 to the New York Knicks on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The Los Angeles team is having a mediocre season. Only half of the twenty matches were won.
