With about 25 to 28 degrees, little wind and no clouds, it is warm in the Netherlands in summer. The pleasant weather attracts many people to the beaches and so it is busy on the roads to Zeeland, Katwijk, Noordwijk and Zandvoort.
A traffic jam has been reported on the A20 towards Hoek van Holland, among others. Motorists on the N200 near Bloemendaal are also delayed by up to almost an hour, the ANWB reports. The NS is deploying extra trains between Haarlem and Zandvoort until 7 p.m. to cope with the crowds.
Crowds are also expected on ponds in the interior. Omroep West reports that all boat rental companies at Kaag (above Leiden) are fully booked.
Possibly the hottest day since the end of June
The pleasant temperatures follow a relatively cool month of August, in which it did not get any warmer than 25.2 degrees in De Bilt. If it becomes 26.6 degrees or warmer in De Bilt, it will even be the warmest day since the end of June, Weeronline reports.
