Suspect arrested in Amsterdam in explosive attack on Antwerp home

Police arrested two suspects in Amsterdam on Saturday after an explosion in Antwerp early Saturday morning, according to Belgian media. According to the media, it’s an attack on the wrong house. It is not yet clear whether the arrested person is Dutch.

At 6am, there was an explosion on Pieter van Passenstrasse in the Wilreich district near the house of a 90-year-old woman. No one was injured, but the house suffered extensive damage.

The Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office speculates that the perpetrator made a mistake at home and did not target the woman. “It quickly became clear that the 90-year-old woman had nothing to do with the drug environment,” a spokesperson told Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.

“She is the friendliest and most innocent resident on the entire street. This must be wrong,” a local resident told Newsblood.

Amsterdam police cannot confirm two arrests in the capital. Antwerp’s public prosecutor’s office could not be reached for comment.

“The investigating judge asked us to surrender to our country,” a Belgian prosecutor told the media. Whether or when that will happen is still unknown.
