It seems a contradiction in terms: budget chain Primark that is fully committed to greening its 397 stores (including twenty branches in the Netherlands). It is the intention that, on the basis of nine objectives, the company itself and the supply chain will operate more sustainably in ten years’ time. For example, the king of the cotton banger promises that from 2025 the clothing will last longer (washing at least thirty times without wear) and that it can also be recycled two years later. In six years’ time, all disposable plastic will also be banned and the CO2 footprint in the supply chain must be halved by 2030. In addition, the retailer aims to provide a wage for all employees in the same supply chain that they can live on.
