Ten Hag and Ajax have not forgotten beating against PSV: ‘It is payback time’ | Dutch football

Ajax will meet competitor PSV on Sunday for the fifth time in 2021. The two Eredivisie matches ended undecided after the leader was behind. In the quarterfinals of the KNVB Cup, Ajax dominated the rival, but in the last mutual squatter, in the battle for the Johan Cruijff scale, the champion received a beating that trainer Erik ten Hag and players have not forgotten.

,,We played great in the cup, so we don’t always have a hard time against PSV. The fact that it went a bit more difficult a few times is mainly due to us. PSV simply has a good team. The way we play football suits them well. But we will not change that,” said Ten Hag, who concluded with a bounce when he was asked whether his players wanted to set things right. ,,I said before: matches cannot be compared. It’s just that we don’t want to lose. We even hate that. So in that regard it is payback time.”

The Ajax coach announced that, except for the long-term absent Andre Onana, Maarten Stekelenburg and Sean Klaiber, he can have everyone available for the top match. That means that no players have reported to the infirmary after the midweek football show against Borussia Dortmund (4-0). “Of course there are a few minor complaints, but these have been virtually resolved today.”

That is different with the competitor. PSV almost certainly cannot have Noni Madueke, who turned out to be the great teasing spirit of Ajax with two goals in August. The swift right winger dropped out against AS Monaco on Thursday with a muscle injury. Not much later, another PSV eye-catcher, Cody Gakpo, was replaced. His employability is questionable.

For Ten Hag, a possible absence of the wing tips will not change the resistance in the topper. ,,PSV has a good selection, with which they are able to absorb injuries. There will be a good team on Sunday,” said the coach, who did not come to many new findings due to four previous meetings this year when he saw PSV’s defeat against Monaco on Thursday. ,,I have seen the match, but we know PSV well and PSV also knows Ajax well. I think we have few secrets from each other.”
