Tennis star Russian to quarter-finals in Rabat

Tennis star Arantxa Rus has secured a place in the quarterfinals at the WTA tournament in Rabat. The best tennis player in the Netherlands was 6-4 6-2 too strong for the Hungarian Dalma Gálfi, the number 98 in the world, at the Moroccan clay tournament. Russian is 22 places higher in the world ranking.

For the 31-year-old Russian it is the first time this season that she manages to make it to the last eight of a WTA tournament. She last managed to do that in October of last year, in Tenerife.

In the quarterfinals, the seventh-seeded Russian may face Garbiñe Muguruza, the number 10 in the world. The Spanish number 1 on the placement list must first beat the Italian Martina Trevisan.

Rus is preparing in Morocco for Roland Garros, which starts on Sunday.
