Thousands of invalid driver’s licenses have not been passed to CBR

Every year, after a driver is arrested for drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs, thousands of driver’s licenses are declared invalid by the Department of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (RDW). However, new figures released by the RDW reveal that of the 10.000 licenses declared invalid in 2021, 4.240 was not passed to the Central Bureau of Automotive Testing (CBR).

According to figures from Dutch police published by NOSLast year, about 4.817 people were arrested for driving with an invalid driver’s license. A significant increase compared to 2017, when “just” 2.832 people were arrested. Police have also reported an increase in the number of drivers arrested for holding the steering wheel while driving banned or licensed.
